Austin is a great city for dog owners to get out and about. If you haven’t already, check out these fun Austin dog parks to visit this summer.
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park
This park is fun for the whole family! Explore over 200 acres of woods with hiking trails, an off-leash dog area, a swimming pool, a playground, five softball fields, two basketball courts and a volleyball court. This park is big, so be sure to have your dog leashed at all times (besides in designated areas).
Yard Bar is not your typical dog park. This location is actually a combination bar and off-leash dog park, perfect for owners 21+ and pets, alike. This safe and clean park features a kiddie pool and has “Bark Rangers” onsite to help monitor dog play. You can sip on a tasty brew while your four-legged friend enjoys playtime.
Emma Long Metropolitan Park (Turkey Creek Trail)
Nature and athletic enthusiasts should check out Turkey Creek Trail, one of the only off-leash nature trails in Austin. Bring your pup for a hike, run, or have them join you for some fishing or swimming in the stream with plenty of deeper pools. The various elevation changes along the trail will give you both a good workout.
Spend your day strolling six themed gardens that cover 31 acres at Zilker Botanical Garden. Although not technically a park, leashed dogs are allowed to visit and can join you for bird and butterfly watching. For older pooches or owners that like to chill out for fun, this garden will be your go-to.
Head to Cedar Bark Park if you have a pup that loves swimming or if the Texas heat makes you want to take a dip. This 5-acre off-leash dog park is complete with a pond, showers and dog water fountains. Plus, there are separate areas for small and large dogs, so your furry friend can get acquainted with others that are around the same size.
