National Puppy Day!!
Biggie as a puppy
Can you believe that's me as a pup? It's one of the few pictures Trevor has of me before I grew into my ears. I thought I'd share this journey down memory lane as March 23 is National Puppy Day! Everyone loves those tiny, furry things, but what are some important facts to keep in mind? 1. Puppies grow up! The average Golden Retriever puppy at 6 weeks weighs only 15 pounds. But that same puppy when full grown can top the scales at 65 lbs. easily! So keep that in mind when selecting a new member of your family. 2. Puppies cost money! We always encourage people to adopt, not shop, but even adoption costs money. And we don't give this warning to deter anyone from adopting (seriously, we WANT everyone to adopt), but just so that people understand what they're getting into. To be very general, expect the following expenses straight out of the gate: adoption fee, spay/neuter fee, vet check up fee, cost of initial supplies, cost of food, microchipping, monthly parasitic expenses and, if necessary, any doggy daycare you may require. 3. Every puppy is different, so do your homework before you fall in love. We understand that sometimes you pick up a pup and your heart never looks back. However, if you have a teeny apartment or work 18-hour days, maybe a high maintenance dog with a ton of energy isn't the best bet. Likewise, if you want a running companion or hunting partner, certain breeds are much more cut out for that type of activity than others. While gut feel is important for picking a puppy, so is knowing your lifestyle and wants/needs.
